Jiuzhaigou Valley translates as “Nine Village Valley” and is named after the nine Tibetan villages scattered throughout the park. Evidence of habitation dates back 3,000 years, and the local population retains many traditional ways of life. The valley is also home to a number of endangered plant and animal species.
